My Approach

I specialize working with adults who have suffered complex trauma, domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, and/or sexual trauma in adulthood dealing with issues related to post traumatic stress, traumatic attachment, family of origin issues, depression, anxiety, shame, guilt, and anger. I work from a depth perspective.  Through the years of counseling both individuals and couples with trauma histories, I have focused on helping my clients solve many of their conflicts by getting at the roots of their personal issues so that they could experience satisfying personal growth with the goal of self efficacy and eventual self-actualization. I help my clients to become aware of their inner child wounding and process, with exploring how this process presently impacts their relationships. I also help them identify the negative cycles and feedback loops within their relationships. With increased mindfulness, clients can then continue to develop empathy and compassion for themselves and those around them.

I believe in collaboration and inclusion. You are the true expert in your life. Your input and efforts are vital to the therapeutic process and to your personal growth. I offer an interpersonal psychoanalytic style of treatment, utilizing the realities of the past and their interactions with here-and-now situations.

The therapeutic goal in counseling is not only to help reduce the pain of conflict, disappointment, and suffering in the clients’ lives and relationships, but to also help people transform inner negative narratives about the self, to cultivate lifelong love and intrinsic happiness after trauma. There are many reasons we are motivated for therapy: a traumatic experience, relationship issues, and feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, or loss.

I offer a free 10 minute phone consultation for all prospective clients. This initial conversation gives us the opportunity to learn more about one another, including my style of therapy and the issues that have motivated you to seek counseling. The initial phone consultation is the beginning of building our rapport and identifying if we would be a good fit to work together. If, for any reason, we decide we are not a good fit; or the reason behind you seeking therapy is beyond the scope of my practice, I can refer you to one or more of my colleagues that may better suit your needs.

The first step is always the hardest.  Not only can it be difficult to ask for help, but rebuilding one’s life can also be challenging. When you are ready to begin your journey, you have a safe space to take off.
